President Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert announced yesterday that the #NUPCountryWideTour2 will temporarily take a pause after the Uganda Police Force issued an invitation to the party leadership to engage with them at the police headquarters in Naguru on Monday, May 27th, 2024.

The letter was signed by the infamous SCP Frank Mwesigwa, who was the catalyst for the deadly November 2020 protests that left dozens of unarmed Ugandan civilians killed in a shooting spree.

The Presidential announcement to halt the tour came shortly after our revolutionary train was again besieged at Ssezibwa bridge, Kayunga Road, as we headed to Pallisa District. The Police, acting under the command of the Kayunga DPC Ms. Rosette Sikahwa, held our entourage for more than an hour. Both sides of the road were barricaded to prevent us from proceeding to our destination or retreating back to Kampala.

After several phone calls, she received orders to force us to retreat back to Kampala, which we did amidst clouds of tear gas and brutality unleashed by the troops Ms. Rosette was commanding.

We returned to the party headquarters while people waved at us to express solidarity with our liberation cause. Sadly, the police were teargasing the roadside bystanders and our supporters whose only crime was showing love for our liberation cause.

Upon reaching the headquarters in Makerere Kavule, the President addressed the media and announced that the tour would be temporarily halted until May 28th, when the train would head to Mukono, and on May 29th to Masaka. He stated that the suspension is to allow our leadership proper time to honor the May 27th invitation to the police headquarters.

The President described the demands of the police as ridiculous and condemned them for always witch-hunting NUP and leaving other political formations to roam about freely.

“We are not contending the law, but we are contending the double standards by the police,” he said.
