Locals of Rukungiri district yesterday defied all odds to welcome our leaders on our ongoing campaign to mobilize and awaken the masses whose sovereignty continues to be held by the regime.

Just like we were surprised by the police discipline in Bushenyi district, the same hospitality was demonstrated in Rukungiri district where we were greeted with respect and support for our tour. It should be noted that on Monday when we touched base in Bundibugyo, the police barricaded roads leading to our rally grounds and even blocked us from addressing the community on radio.

To our surprise in Rukungiri district , we were allowed to speak to our supporters via the airwaves of Country FM, where the president H.E Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alongside the Leader of the parliamentary front Joel Ssenyonyi, Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya and our western region deputy president Jolly Mugisha spoke to the audience that was tuned on.

The leaders who spoke in a mixture of Runyankole and English language brought to the attention of the audience, the plight of the many injustices faced by the country due to the prolonged dictatorship. They spoke about the stinking corruption that has become synonymous with the regime in power, and how the UGX 10 trillion annually lost to this vice would translate into national development if tackled with an iron hand.

After the radio address, our delegation that comprised party leaders and supporters was interrupted and diverted numerous times as the regime worked hard to fatigue our people and dissuade them from embracing our cause. The regime in power even held parallel events to divide the attention of our people but surprisingly, a large number was not swayed by the detractions and chose to stick with us all the way.

We will today be in Ntungamo district as week one of our #NUPCountrywideTour2 hits its tail end with Isingiro as our final destiny on Friday July 19.
