On Thursday night, we were reliably informed about the abduction of comrade Achileo Kivumbi, the head of security at our party headquarters and also a member of president Kyagulanyi’s security detail.
His abduction according to credible reports was orchestrated by four heavily armed men in plain cloths who were driving a Toyota Noah registered as UAP 164P.
Comrade Achileo’s abduction comes days after our videographer Bashir Kasagga alias Motiv Kasagga blew a whistle about a similar attempt to abduct him at his former place of residence in Kawempe. He narrated that armed men traveling in a white Toyota Hiace known as a drone with a military number plate registered H4DF 2798 came to his former residence and made inquiries from his neighbors to disclose his whereabouts. Comrade Motiv who is a victim of abduction and torture himself survived and shared his predicament on his X handle but Police responded adamantly and asked him to reach out to the military authorities and establish what inspired their attempt to again abduct him. Our legal team is following up closely with the military authorities to determine what inspires their endless indulgence in abducting our supporters.
What our leaders have said about Achileo’s abduction
President Kyagulanyi in a Thursday night statement shared in his X handle wrote;
Just learnt of the violent abduction this evening, of comrade Achileo Kivumbi, the head of Security at the @NUP_Ug Headquarters.
Apparently, several heavily armed men, moving in a Noah Reg. No. UAP 164P trailed him and manhandled him as he approached his home. They immediately started beating him up as they dragged him into the vehicle and drove away. His pleas to inform his family members fell on deaf ears. He has been taken to an unknown destination.
We do not know what state he is in right now given what onlookers describe as an extremely violent abduction. The criminal regime continues to violate every human right there is in the book😡😡😡
The Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya in his statement said;
Our brother, comrade @AchileoKivumbi has been violently abducted from Nansana, by heavily armed military personnel moving in a Noah van this evening. Onlookers say he was badly beaten as they took him away. Achileo heads the security team at the @NUP_Ug Head Office. Not even the recent High Court order has moved the regime to stop acting in a rogue manner.
Secretary General on what the law says on arrests turned abductions
The High Court recently sounded a warning. As predicted, the regime has ignored it and continued acting in a rogue manner! If people continue to be abducted in a manner so wanton by armed people moving in private vehicles; people who do not identify themselves or inform their victims why they’re being taken away, what will happen when non-state actors kidnap individuals and harm them or kill them?
How can anyone tell, for sure, that @AchileoKivumbi is in the hands of (in)security operatives? Why didn’t they summon him if they wanted him to respond to any charges? How about informing family members? How about allowing detained persons access to their lawyers and doctors? The regime has thrown under the wind every provision of Article 23 (2), (3), (4) & (5) of the Constitution. They simply abduct, detain incommunicado, abuse and torture! This should concern every citizen. As we have seen, everyone is a potential victim.
This repression can only come to an end when WE THE PEOPLE respond to the call of duty and say ENOUGH!
