Headline: Growing Threats and Abductions Targeting NUP Supporters in Uganda Raise Concerns

Uganda – 17 sept 2023

In a deeply troubling trend, threats and abductions against supporters of Uganda’s National Unity Platform (NUP) have escalated, causing grave concerns for the safety and well-being of individuals who advocate for justice and democracy.

Evidence has emerged revealing that more NUP supporters face intimidation, with messages of fear and coercion being sent to them by anonymous individuals. One such incident came to light when Mr. Aiden Kalisa, a dedicated NUP blogger, shared screenshots of intimidating messages he received from an unknown source residing in the UK. These messages serve as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts to suppress voices of dissent.

The messages received by Mr. Kalisa, and potentially others, highlight the tactics employed by those seeking to intimidate NUP supporters, including veiled threats, harassment, and attempts to create a climate of fear. These sinister tactics not only target individuals but also aim to undermine the broader struggle for justice and change in Uganda.

Simultaneously, reports of abductions continue to emerge, with individuals being forcibly taken away by unidentified individuals. The circumstances surrounding these abductions remain clouded in secrecy, leaving families and comrades deeply worried about the fate of their loved ones.

The NUP and its supporters are resolute in their commitment to upholding democratic values and seeking a better future for Uganda. However, these threats and abductions underscore the challenges they face in their pursuit of justice and change.

In response to these distressing developments, calls for international attention and support are growing louder. The NUP, along with human rights organizations and advocates, is demanding an immediate end to threats and abductions, as well as a thorough investigation into these incidents to bring the perpetrators to justice.

As the situation unfolds, it is imperative that the international community remains vigilant and stands in solidarity with those who courageously continue their struggle for a more just and democratic Uganda.
