Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA) is set to create a task force that will work with the Health Ministry, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) and other agencies to undertake all the required measures aimed at curbing the spread of Ebola Virus Disease.

This follows a recent upsurge in Ebola Sudan cases in the capital, Kampala. According to the Ministry of Health a total of 15 cases have been recorded in Kampala in the recent days with several contacts in quarantine.

During a press briefing on Thursday KACITA Chairman, Thaddeus Musoke said that their task force will begin Saturday operations in downtown Kampala to ensure Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and as well carry out sensitisation of traders. The body has threatened to shut down businesses which will defy the ministry guidelines. “We need to be vigilant, it will be bad for the economy and our people if we get locked down, Many business crumbled and others are yet to recover after the COVID-19 induced lockdowns. We have to avoid take this path again,” he said.

KACITA spokesperson, Isa Ssekito revealed they have been able to constitute a task force that will work with security to monitor and enforce preventive guidelines to elude a possible Ebola Sudan lockdown.

The country has recorded 109 Ebola lab-confirmed cases, 30 deaths and 34 recoveries since the disease broke out in Mubende District last month per the Ministry of Health.
