Katabi Town Council has renamed a road in homage to fallen ‘statesman’ Dr. Paul Kawanga Ssemogerere.The Kitala Prison Ring Road officially became Dr. Paul Kawanga Ssemogerere Road on Thursday 14th December, 2022.
The motion to honor the late Ssemogerere was moved by the Town Council Chairperson, Ronald Kalema during sitting last week. The motion was seconded by councilors Francis Xavier Sserwadda and Wilson Majwega.
Kalema said that renaming a road after the late Kawanga would be the best way to honour him for his outstanding service to the country.
“We are proud of his legacy because his life still makes a big contribution towards democracy as well as the development of the country. Therefore, renaming one of our roads is to keep his legacy on,” he said.
The former Democratic Party president general has been revered for his generosity and strong values.
Paul Kawanga Ssemogerere (11 February 1932 – 18 November 2022) was a Ugandan politician who was the leader of the Democratic Party for 25 years, and one of the main players in Ugandan politics until his retirement in 2005.
