A section of legislators has put pressure on Deputy Speaker, Thomas Tayebwa to let the house debate findings of the Vinci Coffee deal Investigation report. The members demand that the matter be treated with the urgency it deserves.
This comes after the head of the parliamentary committee on Trade and Industry, Mwine Mpaka said Tuesday that investigations into the deal had been finalised and a report was readily available after three weeks of engaging all stakeholders. “The report is ready, fully signed and only awaiting to be allocated time on the Order Paper.” he said
Kira Municipality Member of Parliament, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda said that the house should desist from assigning more work to the committee before the investigation findings are discussed. “When the Coffee agreement issue was raised, it was very urgent. A committee was tasked to investigate the matter but to date, the report has not been discussed. I don’t see it on order paper and even on matters to follow. We are instead sending more work to the committee. Let them first dispose of this item.” he said
However, the Deputy Speaker assured the house that he had received the report but needed more time to read through it before he can moderate the debate.
The Ministry of Finance has come under fire for the last three weeks after the Kimanya-Kabonera legislator, Abed Bwanika expressed concerns after the ministry gave an Italian company, Vinci Coffee Company limited a 10 year exemption from all payable taxes on top of free land for construction of a facility.
