On Wednesday afternoon, the President H.E Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert popularly known as Bobi Wine was discharged from St. Francis Hospital, Nsambya where he was initially admitted following an attempt on his life in Bulindo, Kiira where police fired teargas canisters and dispositions to block him from accessing the main road.

The President requested to be discharged immediately after noting that his own safety was in jeopardy and additionally the immense deployment around the hospital was a danger to other patients.

“Once the regime learned of my admission, security operatives came to the hospital and harassed the doctors treating me, demanding for details of my medical records. They also made several attempts to forcefully access my treatment room but were held off by our vigilant comrades. As if that wasn’t enough, they also blocked all roads leading to the hospital, thereby disrupting hospital traffic flow and endangering more lives,” the President said in a Wednesday evening statement shared on his X (formerly Twitter) handle @HEBobiWine

The 42 year old opposition figure was shot in the leg by an FFU police officer who immediately fled the scene after endangering his life. The operation was commanded by Twesigye Kaino Elias, who happens to be a cadre of the regime and had even previously participated in the 2021 general elections as a candidate for Rubabo County on the NRM party ticket.

Counsel George Musisi who had hosted the President on Tuesday prior to the tragedy spoke to the media and explained that “a teargas canister was aimed at him (President) and it exploded injuring him on the leg.”

Our Leader of the Parliamentary Front Joel Ssenyonyi addressed foreign press and explained the circumstances that influenced the transfer of the president from the hospital to his Magere residence.

“Operatives in civilian clothes had been trying to access his room since last night. They even demanded his medical forms from the hospital. Fortunately, the hospital declined,” he said.
